Why you need a mobile website ~ now!
We live in a world where our lives are dictated by mobile technologies. For everything we do, whether it be to search for a local gardener or post a photo on Facebook, over 70% of us do it on our phone. We may be on the train, at a restaurant, at work, on holiday – we can do it from literally anywhere. So if your website isn’t optimised for mobile devices, then how much traffic are you missing out on? (meaning the website scales down to the size of different devices, enabling it to work on tablets, mobiles, etc ).
Google recently announced a new update which will effect how your website is ranked in search engine results, potentially resulting in your website losing a lot of traffic if it isn’t optimised for mobile use. If your website is already optimised for mobile use, then you could notice a boost in traffic. This is because in April 21st 2015 Google began using mobile-friendliness as a ranking factor, as announced in Google’s official post on their Webmaster Central blog.
You may have already started to notice the “Mobile-friendly” tag in mobile search results, which indicates that a website is mobile friendly. If someone is browsing the web for your service or product on their mobile phone, and they notice that your website is not mobile friendly, then there’s a high chance that they will not click onto your website – resulting in your business potentially losing sales.
Over 45% of people who visit your website are already visiting on a mobile device, and that figure increases daily.
How do I know if my website is mobile friendly or not?
There’s a couple of ways of knowing whether your website is mobile friendly. The most obvious way would be to visit the website on your phone and see if the mobile friendly version loads. If it doesn’t, then chances are your website is not mobile friendly.
Another, more accurate, way is to use Google’s official mobile friendly testing tool. Simply entering your website address into here will instruct Google to analyse your website for mobile friendliness. The tool will then notify you as to whether or not your website is mobile friendly.
